Help - Installing Reciprocal Links Pro
Below is a step by step guide to installing Reciprocal links pro. Please follow these instructions carefully.

Step 1
First you need to create a MySQL database from the control panel of your site, if you do not already have one. If you are unsure how to do this ask your web host. Or we can install the program for you for $20. Click Here to order an installation.
Make sure you make a note of the name of the database you create, the user name and the password.
RLP needs a MySQL database to run. If you do not have MySQL facilities we suggest you get a host that offers MySQL. Many webmaster programs utilize MySQL databases, it should be included as standard with any decent hosting package. If you need a host that offers MySQL we highly recommend 2001 Web They offer excellent fully featured hosting packages and a full site transfer service.
Step 2
Unzip the contents of the RLP .zip to your computer. If you use winzip this should be done automatically. If you don't have a program for unzipping files we recommend winrar and you can download a free trial Here
Step 3
Create a folder on your website to house the script files. We suggest you call it "rlp" as there is some debate as to whether or not certain search engines spider folders named "links".
Step 4
CHMOD the rlp folder to 777. If your hosting will not accept 777, use 755. If you are unsure how to do this consult your web host. We will change this back later.
Step 5
Upload all of the files and folders inside the "Upload " folder to the directory you just created. Make sure you maintain the exact same directory structure.
Step 6
CHMOD the admin folder to 777 (if your host will allow permissions of 777). We will change this back later.
Step 7
Run the installer by opening your browser and pointing it to http://www.YOURSITE.com/rlp/install.php
Step 8
IMPORTANT! After installing the script delete the file setup.sql from your server.
Step 9
IMPORTANT! After installing the script you must delete the file install.php from your server or the script will not function for security reasons.
Step 10
IMPORTANT! After installing the script you must delete the file update.php from your server or the script will not function for security reasons. (if you are upgrading from RLP version 2 do not do this yet do it when the upgrade instructions tell you to do so.)
Step 11
IMPORTANT! CHMOD the admin folder to 755.
Step 12
IMPORTANT! CHMOD the rlp folder to 777. (if your host will not allow scripts to run under these permissions you should change the permissions to 755)
Step 13
IMPORTANT! CHMOD the file admin/connect.php to 444. If you are not allowed to do that by your host make it 644.
Getting Started
If you have completed all the steps above, you can now log in to your administrative section by going to
http://www.yoursite.com/rlp/admin/
The Initial login is:
Username: admin
Password: admin.
We strongly recommend you change the user name and password after you have logged in for the first time. Installation is now complete. All you need to do now is go through the Admin "Settings" section to set up your site descriptions, link settings, emails, etc. and make yourself familiar with the script.

Setting Up Cron For Automatic Link Checking
In order for link checking to run automatically you need to set up a CRON job on your hosting account. If you have never used CRON before, simply put it is the timed execution of a script or function on your site.
If your host does not include CRON facilities you will not be able to run automatic link checking and will instead have to click "Check Links" in your Reciprocal Links Pro administrative area whenever you wish to check all of your reciprocal links.
CRON facilities should be included in any decent hosting package. If you don't have CRON and wish to change to a host that does offer CRON support, again we recommend 2001 Web. They offer a full site transfer service, CRON, MySQL and fully support Reciprocal Links Pro.
